It is a shame to see the summer end

My tomatoes are ripening nicely, the grapes are plumping up, and the squash are producing their expected bounty.  The days are still warm and dry.  But it is the end of August and fall is awfully close.  The days are getting much shorter and are almost cold in the morning.  I don’t mind going to back to work after my summer break.  I don’t mind saying good bye to my sleeping in days.  But saying adios to summer makes me sad.  John Denver said it best, It seems a shame to see the summer end.

But I’m thankful for the hope of getting some of those ripe grapes before the deer do and for kale that will survive the cold and garage sales.  Yes, I’m looking forward to garage sales.  In fact, I’m off to check out one now.
