Good Bye, E.T

Those lovely white hydrangeas, that looked like long legged,  big headed aliens were done peering in my front window.  They’d been there for four months.  I was amazed that the flowers lasted so long. But then again, maybe they weren’t just flowers. Maybe they really were aliens.

In any case, their peering was done.  They’d had their flowery faces pressed up against my front window for months.  Now their lovely whiteness was gone, turned to muddy brown. They were limp and soggy.  The cold and the rain, and mostly time, has taken their toll.

So I said,  “Good Bye, E.T.,” and cut them down.

Maybe they’ll come back next summer.  They’ll be welcome if they do.
